Women's Fashion - 1940s

1940s

Even though clothes rationing was introduced in 1941 woman still 'kept up their appearance' and continued looking their best. However it was not fashionable to be seen wearing over the top clothes and Makeup and hairstyles importance increased. The number of men and women wearing uniforms also increased during wartime. The make do and mend campaign was a massive part of fashion in the 1940s and made homesewers more experimental and creative with fabric.

Woman in the 1940s aimed to create the hour glass silhouette. They would use shoulder pads, tops that nipped in at the waist and an a-line skirt that came down to the knee.
